Abstract

1,129,643. Ampoules. F. B. TRAININ. 13 June, 1966 [22 June, 1965], No. 1504/65. Heading B8C. [Also in Division A5] A disposable injection cartridge comprises a rigid tubular body 10 closed at one end by a member 12 which can be pierced by a hypodermic needle, and closed at the other end by a first liquid-tight piston 15, there being a second liquid-tight piston 16 which can be pierced by a hypodermic needle and which is arranged to divide the cartridge into two compartments 17, 18, the compartment 18 being filled with a stabilized hyaluronidase solution and the compartment 17 being filled with a local anaesthetic and vaso-constrictor solution. As shown, the body 10 is of glass, the member 12 and pistons 15, 16 are of rubber, and the member 12, which is held by a metal cap 14, is covered with aluminium foil or with paper 13. The pistons 15, 16 have annular grooves 19 to provide a liquidtight seal and the piston 16 may have a recess 20 so that it may more easily be pierced. The hyaluronidase solution 18 may contain lignocaine hydrochloride and oxidized gelatine or lactose while the solution 17 may contain adrenalin. In use, the cartridge is loaded into a hypodermic syringe having a double-ended needle which pierces the member 12, the syringe plunger is then advanced on the piston 15 injecting the first solution 18 and then, when the needle has pierced the piston 16, the second solution 17 is injected.
