In apparatus for seasoning timber, the vapour pressure or temperature within the timber is measured as by a pressure gauge or thermometer embedded therein and heating between spaced electrodes connected to a R.F. generator is interrupted whenever the internal vapour pressure or temperature reaches a predetermined upper limit. The R.F. heating may be supplemented by continuous or intermittent heating from another source, e.g. heated panels or hot air.
