Abstract

1,129,250. Stud and socket fastenings. A. V. RAYMOND [trading as A. RAYMOND DRUCKKNOPF UND METALLWARENFABRIK]. 3 Oct., 1966 [4 Oct., 1965], No. 43999/66. Heading E2B. A fastener comprises a stud 10 and a socket 18, the stud comprising a shank 11 for insertion through an aperture in a member 24 means 17 for securing the shank in the aperture and a head 12 at one end of the shank, and the socket having a bore, the wall of which is resiliently expansible and two external spaced flanges 19, 20 adapted to engage the socket with one apertured panel 24a, the external surface of the head of the stud and the walls of the bore in the socket being provided with means 16, 22, which will interengage to secure the socket to the head of the stud when the head of the stud is forced into the bore in the socket. The means 16 of the stud is a step provided by a radially extending flange 16 and the means 22 of the socket is a step of the wall of the bore. For easy entry of the flange 15 into the socket the flange is tapered. The bore of the stud 10 is formed with protruberances (not shown) which are engaged by the means 17 to expand the shank on the underside of the member 24, to hold the stud securely to this member. In one form the socket has circular flanges and to enable it to be engaged with the panel 24a the panel is formed with a keyhole shaped hole; in an alternative construction however the upper flange of the socket is made oblong and the socket is engageable with a circular hole. To increase the resilience of the socket it can be formed with radial slits.
