Abstract

1,128,835. Child's table and seat. BAKELITE XYLONITE Ltd. 2 June, 1967 [8 June, 1966], No. 25468/66. Heading A4H. [Also in Divisions A6 and B5] A child's play block 1 comprises a closed hollow body of polyhedral form with a scalloped recess formed by rotational moulding from a thermoplastic polymeric material. The block 1 can be used as a seat or turned over and used as a writing table. The writing surface may have a shallow rectangular recess in which a hardboard is riveted. A further block (Fig. 3) has two U-shaped back to back recesses extending from one side to the opposite side. The thermoplastic material may be powders based on polyethylene, polypropylene and vinyl chloride polymers and co-polymers. A liquid mixture of vinyl resin and a plasticizer which can be solidified by heat may be used. A blend of thermoplastic polymeric material or liquid vinyl resin plastisol and expandable polystyrene beads is suitable. Stabilizers, pigments and impact modifying ingredients may be incorporated. Powdered polyethylene is charged into a two part aluminium mould and heated to 260‹C. for 10 minutes in an air circulating oven while rotating simultaneously about two diverging axes. The mould is then cooled by water spray, the rotation continuing.
