Abstract

1,190,974. Polyurethane foam with coloured coating. SOC. QUILLERY. 27 June, 1967 [6 July, 1966], No. 29588/67. Heading B5A. A moulded article comprising a polyurethane foam with an integrally formed skin and a coloured coating formed thereon is made by depositing the colouring matter on the inside surface of the mould before the polyurethane processor is added and foamed, the coating adhering to the mould at the time of application and after drying, and becoming bonded to the polyurethane during foaming and demoulding of the formed article. The coating is preferably applied by spraying, may comprise a paint or varnish or a mixture of resin and pigment with or without a solvent and may contain acrylic resins, copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate or vinyl acrylate, cellulose derivatives, vinyl acetochlorides, halogenated or haloganated and sulphonated polyolefins and thermoplastic rubbers. When a solvent is present in the coating it is preferably evaporated before foaming the polyurethane, but polymers present in the coating may be finally polymerized during the foaming stage.
