Abstract

1,128,614. Furniture joints. WHITTING- HAM & MITCHELL Ltd. 1 March, 1966 [30 March, 1965], No. 13414/65. Heading A4H. Vertical moulded plastic panels 2 forming the sides of cupboard or drawer assemblies are connected to horizontal moulded plastic panels 4 by nylon fixing devices 7 which are held in locating holes (9) in the vertical panels 2, and which have spigots 12, 13 terminating in heads 14, 15 which are wedged into recesses 8 formed in flanges 5 on the edges of the horizontal panels 4. The flanges 5 also have keyhole slots 6 into which the shanks of the spigots are sprung. The undersurfaces of the heads of the spigots are chamfered and bear resiliently against the shoulders (18) between the keyhole slots 6 and the recesses 8. The body (10) of each fixing device 7 is frusto conical and has a shallow flange 11. The locating hole (9) into which each body 10 fits is in the form of two frusto conical portions and has three axial ribs 17 adapted to engage the flange 11. The vertical panels may have horizontal ribs for supporting drawer runners. The horizontal panels may have sockets for hinges and catches.
