Abstract

1,128,506. Pre-sensitized printing plates. POLYCHROME CORP. Jan. 25, 1966 [Feb. 5, 1965], No.3338/66. Heading G2C. [Also in Division C7] A lithographic plate is formed from a sheet of anodized aluminium, or an anodized sheet produced from a base coated with an aluminium layer, which has been treated to form a hydrophilic surface by means of an aqueous solution of a metal fluoride selected from TiF 4 , ZrF 4 , HfF 4 and the corresponding double fluorides formed with one or two molecules of HF or an alkali metal or ammonium fluoride and which has been coated on the hydrophilic surface with a layer of a light-sensitive material. After A. C. anodizing in dilute HCl, the sheet is dipped in 1% aqueous ammonia before immersion in the fluoride bath, e. g. 0À5 to 1% aqueous solution of K 2 ZrF 6 at 40 to 70‹C. for a time of 30 seconds to 5 minutes. The sheet is then given an alkaline dip e. g. in 0À5 to 20% aqueous solution of potassium tetrapyrophosphate at 55 to 65‹ C. Prior to applying the light-sensitive coating the sheet is acidified with an 0À005% aqueous solution of K 2 ZrF 6 or dilute acetic acid at room temperature. The light sensitive material may be a condensation product of p-phenylenediamine with formaldehyde and a diazonium zinc chloride salt, or a binderfree coating of a reaction product of a phenolic compound and a diazonium condensation product of a diazodiphenylamine and formaldehyde as in Specification 1, 055, 079. Other known lightsensitive diazo compounds, light sensitive azides, and a reaction product of a diazo compound and potassium ferrocyanide as in United States Specification 3,113, 023 may be used as the lightsensitive compound.
