Abstract

1,128,368. Curing chlorine-containing polymers. UNION CARBIDE CORP. 22 Dec., 1965 [22 Dec., 1964], No. 54280/65. Heading C3P. Ethylene-vinyl chloride copolymers, ethylenevinyl chloride - acrylic acid copolymers, and uniformly chlorinated ethylene - acrylic acid copolymers are dehydrohalogenated and vulcanized. The dehydrohalogenation agent is a metal oxide and the vulcanization can be carried out by peroxides, sulphur or a sulphur-liberating system. Conventional accelerators, activators, retarders etc. may be employed. When acrylic acid is present in the copolymer vulcanization may be carried out by forming a carboxylate salt with an oxide of a polyvalent metal which oxide may also be the dehydrohalogenating agent.
