Abstract

1,128,189. Lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 13 March, 1967 [16 March, 1966], No. 11658/67. Heading F4R. [Also in Divisions E2 and G2] A projector lamp 4 is mounted in a lamp holder 1 which is slidable on a contact surface of a fixed support 2 carrying a reflector 6, the holder being secured to the support by a magnetic holding action which can be rendered ineffective by sliding the holder to a different position relative to the support. Permanent magnets or electromagnets may be employed. In the embodiment shown three permanent magnets 7 are attached to the holder in an annular pattern and the contact surface of the support is provided with a similar pattern of highly permeable portions 8 separated by depressions 9. When the magnets are opposite the portions 8 the holder adheres tightly to the support and may be slidably adjusted over the contact surface by means of screws 10, but if the holder is rotated to bring the magnets opposite the depressions 9 the securing action becomes ineffective and the holder can be removed from the support. The lamp is carried by a cylindrical body 11 which is slidable axially in the holder 1 under the control of a screw 12 and is restrained from rotation by a pin 14 engaging a groove 13 in the body. Various patterns of magnets, highly permeable regions and unmagnetizable regions may be provided on the holder and support, each pattern permitting the locking action to be broken by rotating the holder. The body 11 may be attached to the holder 1 by a similar magnetic fastening.
