Abstract

1,127,402. Dielectric heating. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 24 Feb., 1966 [26 Feb., 1965], No. 8357/65. Heading H5H. Dielectric heating apparatus comprises upper and lower electrodes 1, 2 connected to an r.f. generator 4 and, placed between the electrodes, a banner layer 8 of uniform thickness and having a dielectric constant varying in discrete steps in one direction. Thermoplastic material 6 is bonded or embossed if the top electrode is figured as at 7. The layer 8 is resilient and heat insulating and may comprise several plies including Al foil. The layer and an inductance 13 across the electrodes promote more uniform heating than would otherwise be achieved by the standing wave voltage pattern 14.
