Abstract

The matrix die is produced by an electrolytic process. The surface is made from an electrically conducting material. A raster consisting of separate non-conducting elements is applied to the surface of the matrix. Part of a non-conducting connecting zone passes over into one or more bordering non-conducting elements. The conducting zones between the raster elements consist of grooves in the surface of the matrix. These grooves are filled with an insulating material. The connecting zone can also be formed by strips made from non-conducting materials. The pattern of the intended design is transferred to the matrix photographically.
