1,127,345. Halogenated methanes. SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 31 May, 1966 [31 May, 1965], No. 24112/66. Heading C2C. A halogenated methane of the formula CH 2 BrX, in which X is a chlorine or bromine radical, is prepared by reacting a compound of formula CH 2 ClX with a bromide of formula MBr, in which M is an alkali metal or an ammonium radical, in an organic polar solvent at a temperature from 50‹ C. to just below the boiling-point of the solution. The preferred organic polar solvent is N,N-dimethyl formamide.
