Abstract

1,127,330. Silicic acid. R. HOESCH, and O. HOESCH, [trading as CHEMISCHE PABBIK. HOESCH K.G.]. 26 Nov., 1965 [26 Nov.,. 1964], No. 50434/65. Heading C1A. A highly active filler consisting substantially of silicic acid having a B.E.T. surface area of 50 to 250 square metres per gram is produced. by bringing together simultaneously and in a constant ratio an alkali metal silicate solution, an acid and a magnesium, calcium, barium or zinc salt in an amount of 0À5 to 4À5% (preferably 0À5 to 0À9%) by weight based on the SiO 2 content of the alkali metasilicate,. The precipitation takes place at a pH value of from 8 to 10 and the reaction mixture after completion of the precipitation is adjusted to a pH of from 4À5 to 7À4. The examples relate to the use of water glass, sulphuric acid, and zinc chloride or magnesium chloride or sulphate as the reaction mixture components.
