Abstract

1,127,284. Testing cables. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. July 18, 1967 [July 18, 1966], No.32085/66. Heading G1N. A coaxial cable is tested for eccentricity by short circuiting one end and connecting the other end to a source of alternating current and traversing a search coil over the outside of the cable. If the conductors are truly coaxial, the magnetic fields due to the currents in the conductors will cancel out. Any e. m. f. induced in the search coil is a function of non-coaxiality.
