Abstract

1,127,195. Feeding magnetic record tapes. BSR Ltd. 5 Sept., 1967 [8 June, 1966], No. 25512/66. Heading G5R. An endless tape (14, Fig. 1, not shown) is driven past a magnetic transducer head (16) by a capstan spindle 20 which is provided with first driving means including a power-driven capstan 13 for rotating the spindle 20 to drive the tape during transducing and second driving means, e.g. a resiliently mounted friction wheel 26, for rotating the spindle 20 to provide a fast wind for the tape, driving engagement of the first driving means with the spindle 20 being interrupted during operation of the second driving means so that the capstan 13 continues to rotate at the same speed during operation of both the first and the second driving means. The clutch 28, 34 transmitting the drive from the capstan 13 to the spindle 20 includes a freewheel, provided e.g. by balls 33 (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) rolling in tapered grooves (30) formed in a member 28 fixed to the spindle 20, allowing the spindle 20 to overrun the capstan 13.
