Abstract

1,127,164. Spinning yarns. ALGEMENE KUNSTIJDE UNIE N.V. 16 Dec., 1965 [18 Dec., 1964], No. 53500/65. Headings D1F and D1W. In each of three embodiments of fixed or portable, hand- or pedal-operated apparatus, filaments are interlaced or tangled to join ends of yarns or strands e.g. of glass fibre, by means of turbulent gas e.g. air or saturated or unsaturated steam. The ends are inserted in aligned slots in concentric tubular members so as to project into a blowing chamber; one member (or plunger) is moved within another member (or plunger cylinder) to close the chamber; gas supplied to the chamber through a central tubular nozzle flows past the filaments and is rendered turbulent, as by a resonance chamber coaxially aligned with the nozzle, and the filaments are thereby interlaced. The blowing chamber is connected to a muffling discharge channel, comprising a muffler space lined with sound absorbing .material and of effective diameter larger than that of the nozzle exit. whence the gas escapes from the apparatus. The gas supply is then arrested to cause or initiate return movement of the plunger to the position .in which the blowing chamber is opened and the joined ends may be removed from the realigned slots. The slots may be adjustable to accommodate strands or yarns of different count; components defining the relative disposition of the chambers and nozzle may be adjustably located. The apparatus embodies a permanent magnet whereby it is attached to a support surface. The gas supply and pressure may be automatically controlled and regulated.
