Roving and thread guides. - In the production of yarns or threads, two slivers are employed in the slubbing- frame to each spindle, four of the resulting threads are passed through the intermediate frame to each spindle, and four again of these resulting threads through the roving or jack frame to each spindle. Any one or two of these doublings of the normal number of threads employed may be omitted and three threads may be employed in stead of four. The slivers or threads are passed through the rollers of the frames in close proximity by means of guides e<1>, Fig. 4, or openings in a bar which may be traversed. The guides are arranged slightly out of the same vertical plane and at slightly different levels. The openings may be made in a circular plate e<4>, Fig. 7, which can be adjusted in a hole in the bar e to vary the distance apart of the threads, or the guides may be mounted on parallel bars capable of relative adjustment. A single guide e<1>, shaped as shown in Fig. 4, may be used to guide two threads and au oval opening may be used to guide four threads. The threads may be guided in 'an opening e<2>, Fig. 11, at the sides of an adjustable wedge-shaped piece e<7>, or in inclined slots e<6>, Fig. 13, in the bar e, the relative position of the threads being governed by slots o<3> in a vertically adjustable bar o. The slots o<3> have portions at two different levels.
