Abstract

1,126,616. Chromium doped zinc tungstate. MULLARD Ltd. 23 Sept., 1965, No. 40559/65. Heading C1A. Crystals of chromium doped zinc tungstate are produced from melt of the constituents which contains an excess of tungstic oxide WO 3 compared to that required by the formula ZnWO 4 . The excess of WO 3 is preferably greater than 0À2 wt. per cent and less than 7À0 wt per cent of the zinc tungstate in the melt. The chromium may be added as a salt, e.g. Cr(NO 3 ) 3 either to the melt or to the constituent before the melt is formed. The melt may also contain Li ions which may be added to the melt or to the constituents thereof in the form of lithium tungstate.
