Abstract
1,126,434. Casting processes. HENRY WIGGIN & CO. Ltd. 30 June, 1967 [14 July, 1966], No. 31637/66. Heading B3F. An electroslag refining process is initiated with a solid calcium fluoride slag and, when this is molten and the melting process is selfsustaining, an addition of aluminium oxide, calcium oxide or both is made to the slag. Other materials may be added such as magnesium fluoride, sodium fluoride, -magnesium oxide and, if the electrode contains titanium, titanium dioxide. A starter pad of the same alloy as the electrode and bearing magnesium turnings may be placed at the bottom of the mould before putting slag in the mould.
