Abstract

1,125,798. Wheel hubs. P. LELEU. 8 June, 1966 [10 June, 1965; 12 Nov., 1965; 12 Jan., 1966], No. 25427/66. Headings B7C and B7E. A cycle or auto-cycle wheel hub comprises a rotating hub part 1 closed at one end by a plate 3 which carries brake shoes engageable with brake drum 3 and closed at the opposite end either by a cap (B), Fig. 2 (not shown), or by a cap A which has riveted to its outer face a speedometer take-off 8, the rotating barrel 5 of the hub adjacent the take-off being provided with radial notches 6 in which the driving arms 7 of the take-off engage. Both the take-off 8 and cap B are mounted on the hub axle 9 between nuts 10 and 11 and in the case of cap (B) a packing nut (15) compensates for the thickness of the take-off. The caps A and (B) may be made from pressed steel and provided at their lower ends with an opening 12 to ensure escape of dirt and water. In a variation, Fig. 3, an annular deflector 17 connected to a cap C and surrounding barrel 5 further prevents dirt entering the hub. In the embodiment of Fig. 5, the rotating hub part 101 carries an end plate 104 by means of radial ribs 103 and the assembly rotates about axle 107 by way of ball-races, 108. A collar 109 is connected to the hub barrel 102 and is provided with radial notches 110 in which the driving arms 111 of the speedometer take-off 112 engage. Two deflectors 117 and 118 are connected to the take-off 112. In a modification of Fig. 5, Fig. 6 (not shown) driving arms (124) of the take-off (122.) engage in a seating (125) provided in the end face of barrel hub projection (102a) and a deflector 123 is formed integrally with the take-off.
