Abstract

1,125,292. Potentiometers. ELECTRONITE CO. 27 Aug., 1965 [31 Aug., 1964], No. 1808/68. Divided out of 1,125,291. Heading H1S. A slide wire potentiometer comprises a plurality of pairs of wires such as 140a, 140b and 138a, 138b (Fig. 2) each pair being formed as a single wire of resistance material arranged in the form of a U, adjacent wires being engaged under spring pressure by a contact 152 arranged between them and carried by a movable arm. The wires may be pressed on to the contact 152 by V-section ends of a U-shaped spring member in which 152 is arranged. Alternatively an insulating channel member (216), (218), (Fig. 10, not shown), may be arranged between the wires of each pair, the adjacent wires of adjacent pairs being engaged by different arms of a U- shaped spring contact. The pairs of wires 138, 140 are spring tensioned and though both of them are of resistance material 140, which is used as a pick-up lead, is made of larger diameter and has its ends interconnected. The resistance per foot of the slide wires may vary. The moving arm carrying the contacts is attached to the armature 40 of a reciprocable linear induction motor and carries a pen (124), (Fig. 1, not shown), co-oprating with a moving record sheet (130) as well as a pointer moving over a scale (see Division H2).
