Abstract

1,124,455. Web coating apparatus. ABTETRA PAK. 27 Feb., 1967 [12 April, 1966], No. 9148/67. Heading D1L. Means to apply a liquid to the entire surface cf one side 2 of a web 1 without wetting the other side 3 comprises an application roller 4 and a counter roller 5 and is characterised in that the application roller 4 has a first portion 6 of axial length m, substantially corresponding with the breadth of the web, and annular grooves 8 on both sides of said first portion 6, the grooves being of such a depth that surplus liquid may be drawn off through them. Preferably the roller 4 has portions 7 on the outer sides of the grooves which abut the counter roller 5 and are of such a radius that a clearance 9 is created between the two rollers. The roller 4 may be resiliently mounted for rotation in a trough T containing the wetting liquid and the rolle 5 may have grooves 19<SP>1</SP> and 19<SP>11</SP> arranged opposite the grooves 8 in the application roller.
