Abstract

1,124,052. Locks. METROPOLITAN PLASTICS Ltd. 26 Aug., 1966 [26 Oct., 1965], No. 45234/65. Heading E2A. A lock comprises a casing, a tongue slidable out of the casing to perform the locking operation, a spring to urge the tongue to a predetermined outer position, and a rotatable snail cam engaging the tongue to move it into and out of the casing against the force of the spring, the snail cam being rotatable by a key or handle. The tongue has the outer and inner end portions 34, 54 slidable between portions of the lock casing, the ends portions being joined by spring curved bands 59, 60 which have each an ear with a pin 63, 64 which engages in a groove 66, 67 of a snail cam supported within the casing to urge the tongue to the locking position. The cam has a key slot 69 so that the cam is rotated by a key through a small angle clockwise to withdraw the tongue to open the door or is turned through 180‹ anti clockwise to lock the tongue in extended position. Alternatively the tongue has two laterally projecting spring arms which engage between pairs of lugs on the casing side walls and a pin centrally between the arms which engages in a groove in a snail cam. The tongue and spring may be moulded from plastics material. The spring may be separate from the tongue.
