Abstract
1,123,127. Battery charging systems. KNORR-BREMSE G.m.b.H. 28 March, 1967 [28 March, 1966], No. 14149 Heading H2H. Electronic non-shift non-skid apparatus used in rail vehicles when braking comprises a battery which is arranged to be charged by a tacho-generator forming part of the non-slip, non-skid apparatus. A tacho-generator 1 driven from the driving wheels of the train controls the non-slip, non-skid apparatus 4 by way of conductors 2, 3; the power supply to the apparatus 4 consisting of a battery 7. The tacho-generator 1 is used to charge the battery 7 by way of a diode bridge 10, a zener diode 11 shunting the battery 7 to prevent over-charging thereof. When the generator 1 is of the D.C. type the bridge 10 enables the battery 7 to be charged irrespective of the direction of rotation of the generator. In a second embodiment the generator is of the A.C. type and a transformer is placed between the generator and the diode bridge. The battery supply to the apparatus 4 includes a switch controlled by the output from the transformer and the conductors from the generator to the apparatus 4 and the transformer have diodes connected therein so that the apparatus 4 and the transformer are energized by alternate half-waves of the generator output voltage. When the output from the transformer disappears the switch in the battery supply to the apparatus 4 which is controlled therefrom opens with a time lag.
