Abstract

1,123,074. Measuring weight electrically. W. & T. AVERY Ltd. Dec. 13, 1965 [Dec. 12, 1964], No. 50697/64. Heading G1N. A weighing apparatus includes an amplifier 12 (Fig 1), which is coupled to receive an error signal produced by subtracting a reference voltage at a potentiometer 14 and an output voltage from strain gauge load cells 5 from one another, and the coupling incorporates a frequency responsive network (23) Fig. 2 (not shown) which passes preferentially voltage at the frequency of a source 6 which supplies the load cells and potentiometer. Noise passed on to the amplifier e. g. from the cells, is thereby eliminated, which is of importance when the error signal is reduced in amplitude to a level comparable with background noise. The amplifier output is applied to a servomotor 19 to adjust the potentiometer wiper and hence the reference voltage until the error voltage is reduced to zero. An extension of the wiper acts as a pointer which co-operates with a scale to indicate the weight of the load. The network 23 is also designed to compensate for any phase shift between the signal and power inputs to the amplifier.
