Abstract
112,275. Basset, L. P. Dec. 22, 1916, [Convention date]. Addition to 109,452. Extracting; cast-iron processes.-The process and apparatus described in the parent Specification are applied for the production of wrought iron, cast iron, or steel by varying the proportions of air and carbon injected into the blast furnace. The carbon intended for carburization may be a hard carbon such as anthracite or may be crushed more coarsely than the carbon intended for the production of carbon monoxide. The conveyer d serves to introduce the main part of the carbon and the conveyer g the anthracite &c. The air supply is preferably pre-heated, The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that the invention may be applied also for refining iron or steel in a cupola or other acid or basic furnace. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 109,452.
