Abstract

1,122,705. Separating entrained solids from air. K. L. WHITAKER. 25 July, 1967, No. 41471/66. Heading BIT. A device for removing entrained solids from an air stream, at the outlet end of a pneumatic conveyor, comprises a rectangular filter with three walls 16 and top 17, of perforate metal or wire mesh, an open floor with solids outlet hopper 21 and a fourth wall 11 in common with enclosing chamber 10. Wall 11 incorporates inlet 12, 13 and an access door 24 for cleaning the filter interior. The other walls and top of chamber 10 are spaced from the filter, providing space 18 opening into air outlet 19. Baffle 23 may be perforate or not and deflects incoming solids downwards. Walls 16 slope down and outwards and are connected by flanges 20 to the chamber walls. Access doors 25 in the chamber walls enable cleaning of the filter exterior, the solids being swept through openings otherwise closed by covers 26. Outlet 22 may incorporate an air-lock.
