Abstract

1,121,928. Spring mechanisms. ETABS. MERLIN & GERIN. 25 Nov., 1966 [2 Dec., 1965], No. 52889/66. Heading F2S. [Also in Division H1] To rotate a switch shaft 27 anticlockwise from one switching position to the next, an electric motor (10, Fig. 1) is rotated clockwise to cause clockwise rotation of a shaft 15 via gearing (11, 12, 13, Fig. 1) and a unidirectional freewheeling clutch (14, Fig. 1). Shaft 15 carries a crank 16 having a pin 17 passing through a block 18 on a rod 19 sliding in a sleeve 22 pivotable about a stationary pin 23. A compression spring 20 on rod 19 bears on sleeve 22 and pin 17 through washers. Pin 17 carries a roller 24 that can engage any one of a plurality of radial notches 25 on a rotary disc 26 keyed to shaft 27. A pawl 28 engaging a ratchet-wheel 29 on shaft 27 and pivotable about a fixed pin 30 carries a roller 32 co-operating with a cam 33 keyed to shaft 15 so as to lock shaft 27 in different switching positions. The clockwise rotation of shaft 15 causes crank 16 to rotate from a downward position to the dead-centre position, Fig. 3; cam 33 then causes pawl 28 to unlock disc 26 and roller 24 enters a notch 25 and drives disc 26 through 60 degrees. It then leaves the notch (Fig. 4), crank 16 rotates to its downward position, and pawl 28 locks disc 26. When disc 26 is driven, the gear (13) and the motor (10) are disengaged from shaft 15 by the clutch (14); disc 26 is driven by energy stored during compression of spring 20, some energy being available for the next drive. During clockwise rotation of the motor (10), a similar shaft 15<SP>1</SP> remains stationary. If the motor (10) is rotated anticlockwise, shaft 15 remains stationary, and shaft 15<SP>1</SP> drives shaft 27 clockwise through 60 degrees as before.
