Abstract

1,121,622. Rail vehicles, systems. WHEWAY WATSON Ltd. 2 Aug., 1965 [21 May, 1964], No. 20975/64. Heading B7L. [Also in Division B8] Rippings in a coal mine are conveyed by endless conveyer 5 to drop into the compartments 18 of a car carried on wheels 9. Each compartment 18 has two gates 23 pivoted at 26 and supported by rollers 33 mounted on the hopper. Pivot 26 is carried by carriage 22 movable up and down on the wall of the compartment by means of a fluid cylinder 27. Operation. When the cylinders 27 are operated the respective carriages 22 move up the sides of the compartment and gates 23 slide over the rollers 33 to open downwards into the position shown to allow the rippings to drop on to conveyor belt 7 for discharge thereof. In this way the two gates 23 pivot downwards by a minimum amount and minimise the height needed for the apparatus. Each two compartments 18 form a car on wheels and adjoining cars are pivoted to each other to conform to the undulations of the roadway.
