Abstract

A lubricant comprises an ester oil and (a) either a compound containing the groups \s7 NH and \s7 C = S separated by a conjugated system, or a compound containing the group <FORM:1120997/C4-C5/1> provided the nitrogen atom of said group does not form part of a heterocyclic ring and (b) a secondary alkaryl amine or an amine of formula R1NH where R1 is part of a heterocyclic ring. Many examples of compounds (a) are given which include thiocarbazones, thiocarbazides, thiuram disulphides, thioamides, thioimides, thioureas, thiocarbamic acid and derivatives, thioacridone, aromatic aminothioketones, and aminothiobenzaldehydes. Amines specified include p,p1 dioctyldiphenylamine, phenothiazine, indole, isoindole, indoline and pyrrole. Many examples of esters are given which include diesters, polyesters and complex esters. The lubricant may also contain benzotriazole and a silicone.
