Abstract
Steel sheet for single-coat enamelling is obtained by producing by conventional means, such as oxygen-blowing, a steel containing 0.10 to 0.12% of oxygen and 0.03 to 0.06% of carbon which is then subjected to vacuum treatment to reduce the carbon content to below 0.01%. The steel, still under vacuum, is then deoxidized, preferably with aluminium, and vigorously agitated, after which it is cast and rolled. Removal of carbon may be aided by the use of nitrogen as a flushing gas in the vacuum treatment vessel, while after deoxidation is complete boron, advantageously in the form of 20% ferro-boron, may be added to the steel.
