A hydraulic leakage testing device comprises a piston 27 slidable in a cylinder 25, an actuating member in the form of a ram 21 coacting with said piston, a first port 32 in the cylinder on the high-pressure side of the piston crown 56 connectible to a hydraulic assembly to be tested, a second port 33 in the cylinder on the low-pressure side of the piston crown and means 35 connected to the second port to indicate the amount of displacement of the piston in the cylinder. Fluid is directed into the hydraulic assembly under test and into the cylinder 25 through port 32 until the piston is in the position shown. The reading in indicator 35 is noted and the reading in a second indicator 45 is zeroed. Pressure is then applied to the cylinder 20 which exerts a thrust on the piston via the ram 21 to create a high-pressure in the assembly under test. Any leakage within the assembly results in displacement of the piston within the cylinder facing liquid through port 33 into tube indicator 35. The piston is then forced back by applying pressure fluid in the other direction and a reading taken from the indicator 45. The difference in these two readings gives a measure of the rate of leakage.
