Abstract

Dyeings or prints of anionic dyes on textiles are washed off in a process including the step of treatment with an aqueous solution of a quaternary ammonium salt which contains at least two oxyalkylene groups. The quaternary salts may have the formula:- <FORM:1120271/D1-D2/1> wherein R is aliphatic, preferably an alkyl or alkenyl of 10-22 C, R1 is aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or araliphatic, preferably methyl or benzyl, n is 2, 3 or 4, x and y are positive integers, preferably x+y=2-6 and Z- is an anion. The anionic dyes may be acid direct or reactive dyes. The textiles may be of natural or regenerated cellulose or synthetic polyamides. Examples are given.
