Abstract

1,119,776. Sewing machines. JAMES CASH MACHINE CO. 4 Feb., 1966 [16 Feb., 1965], No. 5097/66. Heading D1G. A stitching template for a quilting machine has an endless guide track constructed from a plurality of sections which can be connected together in one arrangement to provide an endless guide track of one size, and in a different arrangement to provide an endless guide track of different size. As shown, a base 10, carrying an endless guide track D11, is fixed to be upper one of a pair of carriages displaceable in directions disposed at right angles to each other. The upper carriage also supports a quilt to be stitched in accordance with the guide track pattern. The machine comprises a pair of standards interconnected by a pair of vertically-spaced beams. The upper beam carries one or two sewing heads, the lower beam carries the co-operating looptakers, and a motor housed in one of the standards drives the sewing heads; the looptakers and a follower engaging the guide track for displacing the upper carriage in accordance with the pattern. The overall width of the pattern is 64 inches. To sew a pattern 50 inches wide, a first bar 73, carrying pairs of guide members 71, 72 arranged in V-form, is replaced by a bar 69 carrying U-shaped members 68 in place of respective pairs of members 71, 72. For sewing patterns 44 and 38 inches in width respectively, second and third bars 73 are respectively replaced by bars 69. For sewing a pattern 28 inches wide, a bar 63, carrying pairs of members 61, 62 arranged in V-form and central intersecting members, is replaced by a bar 59 carrying U-shaped members 58 and central divergent members, and two bars 79 carrying intersecting members 78 are replaced by bars 77 carrying divergent members 76. The maximum pattern length, namely 64 inches, may be sewn by a single head. Alternatively, the pattern may be sewn simultaneously by the two heads, each cooperating with a guide track for sewing over an area of 32 inches (half the length) by up to 64 inches (the maximum width).
