Abstract

1354933 Embroidery; work holders B TAKETOMI 27 July 1971 [31 July 1970] 35241/71 Heading D1G In a mechanism for stitching designs, a system of pulleys 14, 20 and endless strings 15, 21 enables a work holder 18 to be moved by a tracing pen 25 inserted in a tracing member 23, when the pen traces a model design 28. The mechanism is attached to the bed of a sewing machine. First pulleys 14 guide a first endless string 15 to which is attached first and second supporting rods 16, 17. The first rod 16 is attached to the left hand one of each side. pair of strings 15', and the second rod is attached to the right hand one of each pair 15", so that movement of the second rod 17 causes the first rod 16 to move the same distance in the opposite direction. The guide plates 26 prevent longitudinal movement of the rods. The tracing member 23 is attached to one portion 21" of the second endless string by a screw 24, and the arm 22 is attached to the other portion 21' of the string, so that movement of the tracing member causes the arm 22 to slide the frame 18 along the first supporting rod in the opposite direction. The operator may either trace a model design 28' or construct her own design with the tracing pen. In another embodiment (Figs. 4, 5, not shown) grooved rollers (32) on the ends of the supporting rods roll along the guide plates (26). The second supporting rod is replaced by a supporting plate (34) which carries the' second pulleys (20), and also the tracing member (37) which slides in a slot in the plate. Transparent covers (38, 39) cover the pulleys and strings, the longer of which may have its tension adjusted by moving one pulley along a slot (30).
