Abstract

I NICHOLAICHUK 19 April 1971 [28 Feb 1970] 9756/70 Heading B6P A device for describing a closed figure, e.g. an ellipse, comprises a pair of guides, e.g. cruciform cross-sectional slots 2 at right angles to each other, a slide (9) Fig. 3 (not shown) co-operating with each guide and means, e.g. a bar 5, for carrying these slides in fixed, spaced relationship and being arranged to be connectible to the copying stylus of a tracing or copying machine. The slides may be of cruciform cross-section so as to fit the guides and are rotatably mounted in carriers (7) adjustably fixed in a slot 6 in the underside of the bar 5. The stylus of a tracing machine is located in a bore 12 near an end of the bar, pins 13 being provided for placing at the locations of the stylus and slides for accurately measuring the major and minor axes of the proposed ellipse. The stylus is thus constrained to move in an elliptical path, the tracing or copying machine drawing or cutting out the ellipse on a piece of material in response to movement of the stylus.
