Abstract
1,119,311. Forging. J. KRAUSE. 19 July, 1965 [18 July, 1964], No. 30530/65. Heading B3H. A forging plant comprises a forging press having horizontal oppositely-moving pistons 3, 4, Fig. 1, carrying forging dies 5, 6, resiliently mounted, rotatable and pivoted workpiece gripping tongs 18 longitudinally movable along rails 33, and means 30 for removing the forged workpiece 42. Auxiliary cylinders 7, 8 actuate workpiece cutting tools 9, 10 and auxiliary cylinders 11, 12 actuate notching tools 13, 14. The manipulator tongs 18 is resiliently supported and is rotatably and pivotally mounted under control of an hydraulic drive 22, on a carriage 21 movable along rails 33 by a rack-and-pinion mechanism (32), (34), Fig. 2 (not shown), driven by an hydraulic motor (31). Limit switches are used to control the movements of the manipulator including a limit switch (81) actuated by a cam (80), Fig. 6 (not shown), to give the centre position of the tongs. A hot workpiece is delivered from a furnace to a rotary table 41, gripped by the tongs 18 and fed thereby through the press. During forging the workpiece is supported by a spring-biased counter holder 25 mounted on a carriage 27 movable along rails by a rack-andpinion mechanism (35), (36), Fig. 2 (not shown), driven by an hydraulic motor (37). After forging the workpiece is removed by hydraulically-actuated pivoted carriers 30 and deposited on rails 43a. A shoot (40), Fig. 2 (not shown), is provided to receive scale during forging, and heat shields (38), (39) protect the press tie-rods 17. An hydraulic control system is described, Fig. 4 (not shown), including a plurality of main pumps (44) for effecting the forging strokes, an hydraulic accumulator (59) for effecting the return strokes, rack-and-pinion means (62), (63), (64), Fig. 5a (not shown), for synchronizing the movements of the opposed dies, means (78), (46) for determining the length of the return strokes, and means (72), (73) for controlling, via an electronic system, the forging operation according to a predetermined programme. The position of the various parts are indicated visually to an operator in a control stand 88.
