Abstract
1,119,146. Valves. J. WEY. 4 Feb., 1966, No. 5055/66. Heading F2V. A gate valve has a gate 15, of rectangular cross-section and with flat parallel surfaces, which extends out of a housing 1 for connection to an actuator (not shown). The plate is sealed against external leakage by means comprising four strips 7 of relatively hard material extending across the faces of the plate and four strips 8 similarly of hard material across the edges, recessed into the strips 7. The strips are held in place as shown by packing material 10 filled into grooves in the housing and retained by end cover-plates 11. The longer strips 7 are backed by strips (9), Figs. 1 and 3 (not shown), of resilient material such as rubber placed in the bottoms of the grooves. The strips 7 are rendered flexible by a series of cuts (7c) in the back of each strip so that it accommodates to irregularities in the gate. The gate closes on to an O-ring (13) in a groove 4.
