Abstract

1,119,122. Conveyers. E. P. REMY ET CIE. 5 Oct., 1965 [5 Oct., 1964; 25 Nov., 1964], No. 42114/65. Heading B8A. Objects C1, C2 on a chain-driven roller conveyer 5 are spaced by means of dogs 8, 9, 10 on endless chains 1a, 1b. The conveyer 5 conveys the objects at a speed V until the first object C1 is slowed by the dog 8a moving at a speed V<SP>1</SP> less than V. The object C1 is then pushed laterally towards the chain 1a by the dog 8b also moving at the lower speed V<SP>1</SP>. As the object C2 is moved abreast of the dog 10a on the chain 1a, the object is pushed laterally towards the chain 1b. At the end of its movement parallel to the conveyer 5, the dog Sa frees the object C1 which resumes its original higher speed V. The object C2 now moves into engagement with the dog 8b, is slowed thereby and is spaced from the object C1. Constructional details, Fig. 3.-The chains 1a, 1b are carried on sprockets 2a, 2<SP>1</SP>a, 2b, 2<SP>1</SP>b which are mounted on parallel linkages 6a, 6b and beams 14a, 14b, the linkages being adjustable to vary the spacing of the beams. The dogs are detachably mounted on the chains 1a, 1b and are provided with rollers 11a which are guided by the beams 14a, 14b and by members 15a, 15b attached to the beams. Rails 17a, 17b are also attached to the beams and guide the objects. Other rails 18a, 18b, 19a, 19b guide the objects before and after their passage between the chains. Downstream of the conveyer 5 is provided a conveyer comprising endless chains 22a, 22b interconnected by cross bars 23. Above a roller conveyer 24 are rails 25a, 25b which realign the objects as they leave the conveyer 5. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown) damage to objects by the dogs is minimized by providing pivoted arms 35a, 35b which avoid direct contact with the articles by the dogs. A further modification, Figs. 7-10 (not shown) is adapted for objects fed to the apparatus in pairs abreast. In Figs. 8-10, an endless chain type of conveyer replaces the roller conveyer (5) of the previous embodiments. Additional chains (43, 44) have fingers (41, 42) for further controlling the forward travel of the objects.
