Abstract
1,119,054. Radiation pyrometry. GAS COUNCIL. Sept. 28, 1965 [Oct. 1, 1964], No. 39918/64. Heading G1A. Apparatus for measuring the temperature of a body 5 in an enclosure 6 comprises a first radiation pyrometer 7 sighted on the body and a second pyrometer 9 sighted on the inside of the enclosure and means for subtracting a predetermined fraction of the signal from the pyrometer 9 from that of the pyrometer 7 to correct the latter to measure the temperature of the body independently of the enclosure. The pyrometer 9 is preferably sighted on a point such that radiation from it passing along the path 18 specularly reflected from the body 5 is directed towards the pyrometer 7. As shown, the output from the pyrometer 9 is developed across the series of resistances R1, R2, R3, R4, and fraction appearing across R3 and the part X of R4 is connected in opposition to the output of the pyrometer 7 to give a corrected output at the terminals 15. The fraction X is selected in accordance with the emissivity of the body 5. The resistance R1 may be short-circuited by a switch 17 to accommodate a larger range of emissivities.
