Abstract

1,003,322. Radiation pyrometers. LAND PYROMETERS Ltd. May 30 1963 [April 6,1962], No.13234/62. Heading G1A. Zero drift due to temperature variations of a pyrometer head A are compensated by connecting in series with the pyrometer thermopile 2a thermistor 4, and a metallic resistor, 5, the resistance of the thermistor at 20‹C. being from 10 to 15 times that of resistor 5. Radiation from the source being investigated is focussed on the thermopile 2 which is shunted by a nickel resistor to compensate for changes in cold function temperature. The resistance values of thermistor 4 and resistance 5 are so chosen that the change in potential drop across the combination with temperature exactly balances the change in e.m.f. produced by the thermopile. The head output is connected by copper leads 1 to a bridge circuit B including a self balancing potentiometer 7, 8 the motor 9 of which driving a temperature recorder. Correction for non- unity emissivity of the source is effected by resistor R 5 . In a modified circuit, Fig. 2 (not shown) the potential divider R 7 R 8 is eliminated.
