Abstract

Azo compounds of formula <FORM:1118316/C4-C5/1> in which R is an unsubstituted or substituted 2-thiazolyl group, R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl (including cyclohexyl) group or a phenyl group which may be substituted, R2 is an unsubstituted or substituted phenylene group, R3 is a straight or branched chain alkylene group and Y is a chain of 2 or 3 atoms consisting of at least one atom selected from nitrogen, oxygen and sulphur atoms an any other atoms in the chain being carbon are prepared by coupling a diazotized 2-aminothiazole with a coupling component of formula <FORM:1118316/C4-C5/2> Preferred values of Y give rise to 5, 6-dihydrouracil, hydantoin, 2,6-piperazinedione, 3,5-morpholinedione and 2,4-thiozolidinedione groups. The dyes give violet, red, blue shades on synthetic textile materials.
