Abstract

The invention comprises a process for producing anthraquinone dyes by reacting a quinonimine of a compound of the formula <FORM:1118171/C4-C5/1> where X and Y are H, OH, NO2 or optionally substituted amino, R, R1 and R11 are H, halogen, alkylsulphonyl, aralkylsulphonyl, arylsulphonyl, OH, alkoxy, aryloxy, hydroxyaryl, alkoxyaryl or alkyl and Z is amino, or Z is OH when both X and Y are optionally substituted amino, in an organic or aqueous medium with an alkyl-, aralkyl- or aryl-sulphinic acid whereby an optionally substituted alkyl-, aralkyl- or aryl-sulphonyl radical is introduced into the anthraquinone nucleus. The invention further comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1118171/C4-C5/2> where X, Y and Z are as above, R, R1 and R11 are H or halogen, at least one of R and R1 being halogen and R111 is optionally substituted alkyl, aralkyl or aryl.
