Abstract

A carrier for a pneumatic conveying system comprises a cylindrical container 13 formed with spaced annular grooves 29, having a parallelogram-shaped cross-section, providing spaced annular fins 31 the outside diameter of which is less than the inside diameter of the conveyer tubes (11, 12), Fig. 1 (not shown). There being substantially no seal between the carrier and the conveyer tubes, the carrier is conveyed by the aerodynamic effect of contacting air flowing through the tubes. Recesses 34, 35 are formed in the fins 31 and in a nose section 25 to assist in positioning the carrier concentrically with respect to the conveyer tubes. A detachable closure plug 26 is provided with an eyelet 27 for supporting it on a rack or for holding objects to be carried outside the carrier. The conveyer system, Fig. 1 (not shown), consists of a blower (18) connected between the conveyer tubes (11, 12) at a station (A). A sensor (39) in a U-bend at a station (B) is provided to out off the power supply to the blower on the passage of a carrier.
