Abstract

1,118,031. Making pile fabrics. TAYSIDE FLOORCOVERINGS Ltd. 29 June, 1966 [29 June, 1965; 17 Feb., 1966], Nos. 27437/65 and 6961/66. Heading D1K. Pile fabric is made by implanting the ends of pile yarns supplied by a container 28 in a layer of adhesive on a base fabric 22, and setting the adhesive by heat supplied by heater bars constituting the surface of a platen 38: suction is applied through the gaps between the bars to hold the base fabric in contact with the platen, which then descends to draw the pile yarns from the container 28; after a band knife running on rollers 49 has cut the yarns, the base fabric 22 advances as shown in readiness for the next cycle. The pile yarns are guided by flat spacers 30 and by rods 34 passing through holes in the spacers. Whilst heat is being applied, the platen is reciprocated horizozntally to spread the heat evenly. The yarn container 28 may move vertically instead of the platen.
