Abstract

The invention comprises dyes of formula <FORM:1118012/C4-C5/1> wherein CuPc is a copper phthalocyanine residue, X is a halogen atom, A is a benzene ring optionally substituted by a C1- 3 alkyl and/or alkoxy group, and m and n, which may be the same or different, are 1, 2 or 3, the sum m + n being 2, 3 or 4. The dyes are prepared by condensing a copper phthalocyanine-sulphonyl chloride which may also contain 1-3 sulphonic acid groups, with an amine of formula <FORM:1118012/C4-C5/2> and hydrolysing any unreacted sulphonyl chloride groups to sulphonic acid groups. The dyes colour cellulose fibres in blue shades in the presence of alkalis.
