Abstract
1,117,964. Corrugating webs. NATIONAL TUBE & REEL CORPORATION. 26 Aug., 1966 [10 Nov., 1965], No. 38335/66. Heading D1S. [Also in Division B5] Corrugating apparatus comprises a pair of endless bands 54, 55, Fig. 3, each carrying obliquely-inclined slats 105, 107, respectively, which interdigitate with the salts of other band along inner runs 61, 67 thereof to obliquely corrugate a sheet 108. The bands 54, 55 are trained about inlet wheels 56, 57 and 62, 63, respectively, and outlet wheels 58, 59 and 64, 65, the wheels being spaced as shown in Fig. 3 so that the bands 54, 55 in passing around the wheels extend diag anally, i.e. at approximately 45, to the longitudinal direction of conveyor movement. The wheels 56, 57, 58, 59, 62, 63, 64, 65 may be mounted for horizontal and/or vertical adjustment, e.g. vertical adjustment of the wheels 56. 58 may be effected by rotation of a shaft 75 by a hand wheel 76 through worm-and-wheel means 74, 78 and simultaneous vertical adjustment of the wheels 57, 59 is effected through chains (86), (87), Fig. 8 (not shown). The band 54 comprises endless chains 93, 94, Figs. 3 and 11, trained about the wheels 56. 58 and 57. 59 respectively. The slats 105 extend between the chains 93, 94 at approximately 45 to the direction of movement thereof and each has its ends interposed between legs of swivel blocks 97, 100 and connected thereto by pins 99, 102, respectively. Pins 98, 101 normal to the pins 99, 102 connect the blocks 97, 100 to brackets 95, 96 on the chains 93, 94, respectively. Similarly, the slats 107 of the band 55 are mounted on endless chains. A second sheet 124 passes between bands 120, 121 having slats 122, 123 and is similarly corrugated but with the corrugations extending in the opposite diagonal direction to those of the sheet 108. Endless flexible belts 129, 130 are situated intermediate the bands 54, 55 and 120, 121 and convey a plane sheet 131 through the apparatus. Inlet guides 49, 51 for the sheets 108, 124 comprise parallel rods 114 extending between walls 112, 113 and feed the sheets between the corrugating bands at an inclined angle. An inlet guide 50 for the sheet 131 is arranged in alignment with the longitudinal direction of feeding. After passing through the corrugating apparatus 20, Fig. 1, the intermediate web 23 (131) is coated on both sides with adhesive by an applicator 24. The sheets pass through a laminating station 25 and the three-ply assembly 26 passes to a wrapping station 27 where it is covered by a web 28 supplied from a reel 29. Overlapping edges of the web 28 are adhesively secured together during passage through a pressure securing station 33. Predetermined lengths 37 of board are severed at a station 36.
