Abstract

Card, wire.-The dents or teeth are made with flattened ends, the line of the flattened ends being parallel to the crown of the double tooth and also to the axle of the carding cylinder during the carding operation. Figs. 5 to 10 show the manner in which wire of the various sections shown in Figs. 8 to 10 is ground in the usual manner to produce the needle points g, h, i, while Figs. 11 to 16 show the manner in which wire of the seetions shown in Figs. 14 to 16 is ground according to this invention to produce the flattened edges j, k, l. The flattened tooth may be corrugated by means of suitable stamps. The effect of the usual grinding operation on the flattened working edge of the tooth is to produce a number c.f microscopic burrs thereon which increase the effectiveness of the teeth in the carding operation.
