Abstract

1,117,442. Fertilizer distributers. DORMAN SPRAYER CO. Ltd. 25 Feb., 1965 [29 Nov., 1963], No. 47262/63. Heading A1D. A machine for distributing granular or powdered pesticides, or fertilizers comprises a hopper, a hollow spindle rotatable about a substantially vertical axis, an impeller having at least one arm mounted on the spindle adjacent the hopper base, a circular member spaced from a wall portion of said hopper by annular gap, said member being mounted on the spindle above the impeller and serving to deflect the material in the hopper to the gap, and one or more apertures in the wall of the. spindle adjacent the inner end of the or each arm to connect the interior of the hopper with an outlet from the spindle. As illustrated the distributing machine comprises a cylindrical hopper 1 mounted on a support, and a rotatable hollow spindle 4 to which are attached impellers 14, a cone 16, and agitators 24. In use, material passing through the annular space 17 is swept by action of the impellers to the apertures 13 in the spindle. The rate of material feed may be controlled either by varying the speed of rotation of the spindle, or by movement of an obturating device 19. A number of machines may be associated with seed drills and may be mounted on a tractor (Fig. 3, not shown).
