Abstract
1,117,273. Regulating vehicle headlights. PROJECTEURS CIBIE. June 28, 1965 [July 4, 1964; Oct. 19, 1964], No.27372/65. Heading G1A. A device tending to maintain constant the area of illumination and its position in front of the vehicle comprises electrical transducers, responsive to movement between the sprung and unsprung portions of the vehicle and to local movement between the headlight and its mounting, connected in a bridge circuit the output of which is arranged to adjust the position or attitude of the lamps and rebalance the bridge. The transducers may be photo-electric or potentiometer type and may be double element device connected in the bridge circuit to respond to pitching but not to level compression. The photo-electric transducer may comprise a shutter mounted in one portion which moves between a light-source and a pair of detectors mounted on the other, the detectors being photo-conductive and arranged so that movement of the shutter in opposite directions affects them in opposite manners. A transistor amplifier, the motor control circuit and a transistor D.C. voltage converter are described, and a modified motor control circuit in which the bridge which includes only two transducer elements is supplied with undulating D.C., the passage of the alternating component of the undulating current through one or another amplifying path to a respective field winding is controlled by the direction of current flow through the bridge. The left and right hand lamps may have individual control systems.
